Hydraulic Engineering

The macro-sector 08/A1 (Hydraulics, Hydrology, Hydraulic and Maritime Constructions) encompasses all hydraulic disciplines. Specifically, the courses related to macro-sector 08/A1 currently delivered by the Department’s faculty members are: Hydraulics and Hydrodynamics for SSD ICAR 01; Hydraulic Protection of the Territory and Hydrology, Maritime Constructions and Coastal Defense, and Hydraulic Constructions for SSD ICAR 02.

In particular, the courses under SSD ICAR 01 provide both basic and advanced knowledge related to the statics, kinematics, and dynamics of fluids, as well as experimental and numerical techniques for the modeling of hydraulic phenomena. The courses under SSD ICAR 02 represent the natural progression of the educational path of civil engineering students. Specifically, theoretical concepts are further developed with a more applied perspective. In this framework, knowledge is provided for the design of land reclamation works and river training structures, as well as urban drainage systems and aqueducts.

Other key aspects of the SSD ICAR 02 disciplines concern the analysis of wave motion characteristics, the dynamics of sediment transport along coasts, and the design of port works and coastal erosion control structures. Finally, in-depth study is given to the water cycle and the scientific and regulatory knowledge required to design anthropogenic interventions aimed at soil protection, integrated water resource management, and the reduction of hydraulic risk, both in riverine and urban contexts.
