This scientific sector is interested in the scientific and educational-training activity of the entire thematic field of architectural design at the different scales for installations, buildings, cities and landscapes. It is divided into theoretical and methodological aspects, concerning the problems and techniques of contemporary design and environmental transformations, and into applicative and experimental aspects, aimed at controlling the typological, compositional, procedural and construction characteristics of the different architectural scales, as well as the connections with structural and plant engineering issues.
This scientific sector studies the building in its formal structure and in the elements that compose it, in the internal spatiality which includes problems of interior architecture, furnishing and display also in the field of museography and scenography, in the relationships with the city or the landscape conditioned by complexity of material and immaterial relationships between nature, objects, people and images. He also studies the forms of the contemporary city and the phenomena that have determined its evolutions and transformations, applies and experiments with morphologies and processes for the modification of its parts. It is also referred to landscape architecture and open spaces in all anthropic conditions and at all scales, recognizing in geographical and topographical conditions, in environmental diversity and in historical, architectural, cultural, ecological and formal pre-existences the qualifying characteristics for the sustainability of transformations, dealing with the interaction of infrastructures with the landscape, urban green systems, the redevelopment of abandoned or degraded areas, the design of parks and gardens, squares and open spaces in general.
