Academic degree: Agricultural Sciences degree at University of Pisa; graduation date: March 12, 1987; final grade: 110/110 cum laude. Diploma of Ph. D. in Fruit Science; graduation year: 1993.
Since 1997 Researcher at University of Pisa and Professor of “Ornamental Arboriculture” and “Naturalistic Environmental Restoration Techniques” at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Pisa. Then, since 2012 Professor of “Green Structures and Landscape” and “Landscape Architecture” (Landscape Ecology module) at the Degree Course in Building Engineering-Architecture of University of Pisa.
At present he has been operating for almost 20 years in the field of the propagation of wood species in fruit growing and technical greenery, in the design of green areas and structures (walls and roofs) and in the management of trees (census, stability survey, pruning and cabling), both in the private and public environment.
Area of expertise: Breeding and evaluation of rootstocks for fruit trees; application of in vitro culture on fruit, ornamental and forestry species; mechanisms of abiotic stress tolerance (nutritional deficiency, in particular iron and lime-induced chlorosis, and temperature)and phytoremediation; floral biology and dormancy of woody species. He is currently engaged in researches on development, architecture and pruning of woody plants, tree inventory and evaluation of visual tree assessment methodology, biomechanic properties of wood in trees and palms.
The research and dissemination activity is evidenced by over 60 articles published in national and international journals. Below is the list of publications of the past five years.

    - development, architecture and pruning of woody plants
    - tree inventory and evaluation of visual tree assessment methodology
    - biomechanic properties of wood in trees and palms
    - benefits and ecosystem services of trees in urban environment
