Tuscany X is the regional leader of the European Digital Innovation Hub, a major initiative supported by the European Commission (DG Connect) and the Italian Ministry of Industry (MIMIT).
The project has a Principal coordinatorr Polo Tecnologico di Navacchio and a Technical coordinator GATE 4.0 and includes 17 partners, among which all the universities in Tuscany.
The main goal of the project is to accelerate the digital and green transitions of SMEs, offering services of digital assessment, problem setting, feasibility, Proof of concept and Test before invest. SMEs may apply to Tuscany X for a preliminary assessment of their needs and for the scouting of possible solutions offered by providers in the ecosystems. Projects have a small scale (up to 30k, full coverage of costs) and are used by SMEs as the preliminary, uncertainty-reduction steps of the digitalization journey.
The University of Pisa provides scientific and technical expertise and the engagement of junior researchers in carrying out highly professional services.
As examples of projects started at University of Pisa and currently on-going consider the following
a) A SME specialized in real estate data management will explore machine learning applications for the improvement of market estimates
b) A 3D printing company will run a Proof of concept with new bio-materials
c) A startup company specialized in Humanoid robotics will carry out testing of human-robot interaction in a realistic context
d) A SME will explore the potential of Artificial Intelligence in archeology, leveraging on state of the art technologies
e) A public administration will study the preliminary specifications for the creation of a data-driven and smart Energy Community
Another line of the Tuscany X project at the University of Pisa is the financial support to the participation to Master programmes and Summer Schools in the two areas of digitalization and sustainability. Vouchers will be offered to participants that are employees of SMEs located in Tuscany.
